How can I help you?
How can I help you?
I love to teach kids what they can do with writing. After all, I tell them, even what's on the cereal box had to be written.
For any given school year, I am usually teaching Creative Writing (see description below) somewhere. The class is made up of elementary to high school students and we have a marvelous time!
"Your class was the best academic decision we've made this year."
- Homeschool mom
"My son had been overly critiqued and thought he could not write well, but your class showed him that he really is a good writer."
For high school students, I have First Friday workshops at the Fairhope Library from 10-12. Whether you need help writing a common app essay, scholarship essay or research paper, I can help you get started or edit what you have already written. $40 per session..
"Margie's Common App essay class is awesome. With her help, my son is now a freshman at Brown."
I have developed a creative writing course in which I lecture on a different topic each week, followed by an assignment. Speeches, poetry, news writing, copy writing, magazine articles and blogging are just some of the topics I cover. . Both the creative aspect and the mechanics of writing are addressed. This class may meet weekly for one semester or every other week for the entire school year. Price per class ranges from $8-$12, depending on the number of students. Send for a sample syllabus. [email protected]
I will also come visit public and private school classrooms. I can instruct high school journalism students how to get their ideas out of their heads and into a magazine.
I have traveled from New York to Italy to speak to women.'s groups. From the single years to marriage to parenting adult children, I am careful to use the scripture to address every season of a woman's life. ;
Retreats, Banquets, MOPS groups, events, Bible study series and family camps. I would love to come speak to your group. Contact me at [email protected] for more information.
What women's ministry leaders are saying:
"Your words were just what our ladies needed.."
--Retreat Coordinator, Naples, Italy
"Everyone enjoyed hearing your funny stories and Christian wisdom. I had so many women come up to me afterwards, expressing how much inspiration and encouragement they received from your talk."
"Your message is relevant no matter what season women find themselves in."
"I just wanted to thank you again for speaking to us. Your talk was a hit--you do have a gift for reaching moms."
"We were all so very blessed by your message. When could we have you back to speak again?"
"The women are still talking about your talk."
What women are saying::
"I felt like you were talking directly to me."
"I like how you said my husband needs me. I often think my kids need me and my husband wants me, but that's not true. I need to change how I respond to my husband."
"I liked your conversational style."
"I thought your talk was going to be more on home organization, but I liked the way you broke things up so. It all made sense."
I have written for Focus on the Family's Brio, Breakaway and Focus on Your Child. I've also been published in The Quiet Hour, Today's Christian Woman, Marriage Partnership, Chicken Soup for the Soul, Memphis Parent Magazine, Richmond Family. and many others.

Though I have a biweekly column in The Courier, I am taking a break from magazine writing for a while, as now that my youngest is in school, my goal is to put my 30 years experience into one book.
